Free Virtual Staging Tools: What Actually Works (and the Catch)
Stageless Team

A note before this list. We make one of the tools mentioned here, Stageless AI, and it is not positioned as the winner. What follows is a description of what each free tier includes, based on publicly available pricing pages at the time of writing, not a hands-on test of every listed tool. Free tiers change often, sometimes month to month, so treat this as a starting point and confirm the current terms on each provider’s own site before you rely on one for a real listing.
What “Free” Usually Means in This Market
Almost nothing in this category is free without a condition attached, and the condition is usually one of four things. A watermark on the exported image, which rules it out for a live listing even if the staging itself looks fine. A resolution cap well below what property portals expect, fine for a quick concept, not for a photo buyers will zoom into. A limited number of credits, sometimes renewing daily or monthly, sometimes a one-time allowance that never comes back. Or a licence restricted to personal or evaluation use, which technically means you can’t publish the result commercially even without a visible watermark.
None of this makes free tiers useless. It makes them a different product from a paid plan: good for testing whether a style works, testing whether a tool reads a room correctly, or showing a seller two options before you commit. Not automatically good for the listing itself.
Virtual Staging Tools with a Free Tier
Stageless AI. 20 free credits at signup, no card required, at full resolution with no watermark, usable for a real listing within that allowance. After the free credits, pay-as-you-go from €0.60 per image or the Base plan at €10.99/month for 20 credits.
Collov AI. Reported to offer a handful of watermarked trial images rather than an ongoing free tier, meant for evaluating the tool’s style and quality rather than publishing the result.
REimagineHome. Offers a small number of free credits on signup, reported at around five by several trackers, enough to test the tool on one or two rooms before deciding whether to subscribe.
ApplyDesign. Several sources describe a free first image, with the rest of the workflow running on paid credits after that.
Spacely AI. Offers a larger free credit allowance than most, but its free-tier output has been reported as watermarked as of mid-2026, which some older comparisons don’t reflect. Confirm the current watermark policy directly before counting on it.
BoxBrownie. No free tier. Every staged image is paid, priced per photo rather than by subscription, useful here only as a contrast: not every tool in this category has a free option at all.
Comparison Table

When a Free Plan Is Enough, and When It Isn’t
Enough for testing a style before you commit, showing a seller a before-and-after during a listing presentation, or staging a single room on a listing you’re not sure will need staging at all. Not enough for a full listing set, where the number of free credits runs out well before twelve or twenty photos, or for any image that will actually go live with a watermark still on it. The arithmetic that matters isn’t the price per image, it’s whether the free allowance covers the number of photos a real listing needs, and whether what comes out the other end is something you’re allowed to publish.
